When most people think of passive income, the first thing that pops into their mind is buying a rental property and getting paid for rent each month.

There is a major flaw with that concept: it takes money to make money. If you have no money, you can’t buy a rental property.  You can’t buy stocks.

Not only that, but it’s way too risky.  Who knows what could happen to the property.

The reason people always think of real estate or stocks is because, traditionally, those were a few of the most proven models for making passive income.

But the internet has changed everything. No longer do you need cash to build a business. There are tools online that allow you to start from almost nothing. The first business I launched generated over $7000 of revenue in the first month and my expenses were less than $1000. (They would have been less than $500 if I didn’t do advertising.)

This is possible today because the majority of tools I used to build that business didn’t exist five years ago.  There are hundreds of services online that you can use to build a business that cost little to know money to use.  There are new tools popping up every single day and a lot of the tools I use didn’t exist a few years ago.

Everything that I do is based online.  I want a business that allows me to work from anywhere in the world… I won’t work with anything that requires my physical presence.  Because I have spent so much time online, I’ve naturally taught myself about web design.  And I’ve become pretty damn good at it.

My first experience with passive income was when I built a series of Wordpress Tutorials that taught bloggers how to build a better blog with Wordpress without paying someone a bunch of money to design one for them.

I didn’t make much money… like $500 or so.  But it was the concept that was life changing.  I built these tutorials one time and then I simply spent my time marketing them to people.  Each time I got a new customer, I didn’t have to do anything except give them access to the videos.

It was awesome.

Needless to say, I’ve learned a lot since then.  But when I sold four of those tutorials at once… something clicked.  I had a paradigm shift.  I realized that if I only worked on businesses that create passive income, I could have a whole bunch of streams of income coming in, whether I was working or not.

Since then, I have committed myself to only working on projects that build passive income for myself and for my clients.  Because of that, I spend a LOT of time working with my clients to build their businesses.   In order to deliver the best possible experience for my clients, I have to limit the number of people I work with.
